Texas Brahmas winger James Hiebert is doing what he loves
Posted Thursday, Mar. 11, 2010
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Not many people can say they knew what they wanted at 14 and continue to follow it as a career. James Hiebert did just that. The 27-year-old winger from Hay River, Northwest Territories, posted impressive stats for six years with the Laredo Bucks before joining the Brahmas for the 2009-2010 season.
Hiebert had an assist in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss to Allen. However, the Brahmas are one point away from clinching a playoff spot. They play at Mississippi tonight.
What was the shift like for you to come from Canada to Texas? Well, it's cold all the time there. Like the day there was 10 inches of snow in Dallas, that's what it's like back home, only all the time. The air is fresh up there, there aren't as many people.
And Texas? Well, I've been in Texas for seven years. I like the warm weather, but it's not too much of a change.
How did you get involved in hockey? I grew up in northern Canada, in the Northwest Territory. That's all there is to do there, I guess.
